Terms of Service

Effective date: 1 January 2026

1. Agreement

By creating an account or using ScholarPath (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service. These Terms form a contract between you and ScholarPath Ltd ("ScholarPath", "we", "us").

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and have the legal capacity to enter into a binding contract. If you are using ScholarPath on behalf of an institution, you represent that you have authority to bind that institution to these Terms.

3. Account

  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and two-factor authentication credentials.
  • You must notify us immediately at [email protected] if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.
  • You must provide accurate registration information and keep it up to date.
  • One account per person unless you have written permission from us.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law.
  • Upload content that infringes any intellectual property right, contains malware, or is defamatory, obscene, or harmful.
  • Attempt to probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service or circumvent any security measure.
  • Use the Service to engage in academic misconduct, including submitting AI-generated content as your own without disclosure where required by your institution.
  • Resell or sublicence access to the Service without written permission.
  • Scrape, harvest, or systematically extract data from the Service by automated means.

5. Subscription and payment

  • 7-day free trial — every new account receives a 7-day trial with full access to all features, subject to AI usage limits. No payment details are required to start the trial.
  • Pro tier — billed monthly or annually via Stripe. Prices are shown on our pricing page and may change with 30 days' notice.
  • Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled before the renewal date via Settings → Billing.
  • After the 7-day trial expires, continued access requires an active Pro or Institutional subscription. No refunds are issued for partial billing periods; you may cancel at any time and retain access until the end of your current billing cycle.
  • All fees are exclusive of VAT. VAT is charged at the rate applicable in your jurisdiction where required by law.

6. Your content

You retain ownership of all research content you create in ScholarPath. You grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to store, process, and transmit your content solely to provide the Service. We do not use your research content to train AI models.

7. Our intellectual property

The ScholarPath platform, including its code, design, AI prompts, and methodology frameworks, is owned by ScholarPath Ltd and protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, or distribute any part of the platform without our written permission.

8. AI features

AI coaching outputs are generated by large language models and are intended as research support tools only. They do not constitute academic advice, legal advice, or professional guidance. You are responsible for critically evaluating all AI-generated content before relying on it.

9. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The Service is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by law, ScholarPath's total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim. We shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages including loss of research data.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be excluded by law (e.g. death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud).

10. Termination

You may delete your account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete Account. We may suspend or terminate your account immediately if you breach these Terms or for any other reason with 30 days' notice. Upon termination, your data is deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will provide at least 14 days' notice of material changes via email and an in-platform banner. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, except where mandatory consumer protection laws in your jurisdiction provide otherwise.
